According to Dictionary.com and wikipedia:

1. Container typically constructed with four sides perpendicular to the base and often having a lid or cover.
2. Square or rectangle: Draw a box around your answer.
3. A separated compartment in a public place of entertainment, such as a theater or stadium.
4. Slap or blow with the hand or fist.
5. Vulgar Slang: The vulva and the vagina.

The project started when the portuguese singer / guitar player Bruno Rocha met the Belgian drummer Bruno Goedhuys and they started rehearsing together. The energy of the duo was great right from the start, but they agreed that a bass player was needed for their type of sound, so that's when Gilles Verougstraete joined them.

They've rehearsed as a trio for a while, and the name of the band was found during this period, but something was still missing to achieve the level of detail they wanted for the arrangements, so BOX kept looking for a second guitar player.That's when Pascal Smets joined, and the current formation was reached.

The sound of BOX is a powerful indie rock, with heavy duty/herculean drums, riff driven fuzzed-up guitars and fat basses supporting lyrics that never use half words to say fully what they mean, and it has been related to bands like The Queens of the Stone Age, Audioslave, Alice in Chains or Triggerfinger (which is not strange, considering that they have Mario Goossens as a producer, the man who has produced amongst others The Black Box Revelation and who is Triggerfinger's drummer himself).
